Camp Instructor, STEM Salary: Location: Works all three Campuses Job Type: Full Time Department: Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation Job Number: 202300194 Closing: Continuous Visit our https://scf.edu/Administration/HumanResources/Benefits/default.asp for benefit details Job Summary The position of Camp Instructor innovatively delivers organized and engaging STEM activities to youth featuring coding, LEGO robotics, Minecraft, game design, drones, 3D printing, circuits, and entrepreneurship to enrich camper knowledge of concepts and career pathways. Works collaboratively with the Camp Leader and Camp Assistant. Exhibits professionalism as a role model. Creates and follows curriculum lesson plans. Maintains camp documentation and data. Adheres to SCF policies and procedures. Ensures a healthy and safe camp environment and assumes overall responsibility for classroom management. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties: • Delivers organized and engaging STEM curriculum through activities to youth including but not limited to coding, LEGO robotics, Minecraft, game design, drones, 3D printing, circuits, and entrepreneurship. • Works collaboratively with the Camp Assistant and Camp Leader to prepare and maintain facilities, equipment and supplies for camp activities and maintaining documentation of inventory to accommodate class sizes. • Creates a fun camp experience for youth full of designing, interacting, inventing, communicating, and problem solving, while gaining valuable teamwork skills and potential interest in a future career in STEM. • Assists the Camp Leader in meeting camp goals, coordinating experiential learning such as field trips and guest speakers, prioritizing the health and safety of campers, promoting the camp program, and evaluating each week's success through debriefings. • Serves as a problem solver regarding classroom management issues that arise, including but not limited to camper disciplinary remediation or health/safety issues, maintaining an efficient, smooth running schedule with minimal unscheduled interruptions. Reports issues routinely to the Camp Director. • Performs other duties as assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Education/Experience: Associate's degree from a two-year college or university and experience with STEM curriculum. • Supervisory Experience: Experience in coaching, advising, and mentoring preferred. • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret texts, periodicals, journals, equipment instructions and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, campers, parents, sponsors, SCF staff, and the public. • Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphs. • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, chart or schedule form. • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office experience is preferred. Experience in computer coding and programming, robotics, Minecraft, game design, and 3D printing processes is preferred. • Certificates and Licenses: None required. Responsibility for People and Property: Oversees the camp staff in their daily camp activities with campers, parents, sponsors, and guest speakers. Maintains camp equipment, facilities and supplies in safe working order. Responsibility for Communication: • Internal Contacts: Routine contact with all levels of SCF STEM Camp students, parents, and staff. • External Contacts: Contact with camp visitors, sponsors, guest speakers, and occasional visitors touring SCF facilities. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above average due to electronic devices such as drones, 3D printers and other camp equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to use manual dexterity, talk, and hear. The employees will be on their feet frequently and required to walk, reach with arms and hands, and lift to 15 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
